Hypnosis Insomnia Treatment

By Alan B. Densky, CH

Are you going to bed around the time that everyone else is waking up? It might be cold comfort to know that you are among the 20 million Americans who suffer from insomnia. If dark circles, a groggy head and nights spent lying awake have become standard for you, a hypnosis insomnia program could bring the relief you need.

No doubt you feel you've tried everything to fall asleep, including a nightcap, over-the-counter-sleep aids or even highly addictive sleeping pills. All lead to the same end: You build up a tolerance, your "sleep" isn't restful and the next morning you felt drugged and lethargic. Self hypnosis insomnia treatment can bring safe, effective sleep without side-effects.

A lot of people mistakenly believe that hypnosis is sleep, but effective hypnosis insomnia programs will only work if you are awake but in a deep state of relaxation. In this state, your unconscious mind is more open and accepting to suggestions. In the most successful programs, post-hypnotic suggestions are given to you to eliminate stress and set up a positive expectation of restful sleep. Hypnosis for insomnia is frequently effective after the first session because we tend to get what we expect, so you will sleep soundly all night long.

After thoroughly relaxing, the next step in self hypnosis insomnia treatment is understanding what compels you to suffer sleep disturbance. Another key component of a hypnosis insomnia course involves looking at small changes to your nightly ritual that will have the greatest effect on your ability to quickly fall asleep for sound and restful slumber.

At the heart of a successful hypnosis insomnia program lies Neuro-Linguistic Programming, or NLP. Powerful NLP techniques can be used to "flip" things around in the unconscious mind so that thoughts and experiences that previously triggered stressful feelings will actually cause relaxation instead.

Relieving stress is paramount for a hypnosis insomnia treatment to work, and NLP visualizations can train the unconscious mind to automatically extinguish disturbing thoughts and feelings of anxiety and stress. These peaceful feelings stay with you through the day so that when it is time for bed, you can fall asleep quickly and rest throughout the entire night without interruption.

In addition to using effective NLP techniques in hypnosis insomnia programs, Ericksonian Hypnotic Metaphors are also helpful. Essentially, a qualified hypnotist creates a metaphor, or a parable, that directs your unconscious mind to calm your thoughts—especially at night—to eliminate any fear or anxiety about lying awake.

To permanently overcome insomnia, learning to relax with self-hypnosis is imperative, but it is not always possible to listen to a CD or watch a DVD.  Learning how to give yourself post-hypnotic suggestions anytime, anywhere to bring about deep relaxation can easily be accomplished. That's right—you can successfully use self hypnosis insomnia suggestions any time you need them.

Self hypnosis insomnia programs cannot harm you in any way. A hypnotist cannot make you do or say anything that you don't wish to. You remain completely in control, and there is no "hypnotized feeling" that you have to work through. In fact, the worst that could possibly happen is that you may fall asleep for 30 minutes or so—that's the goal of hypnosis for insomnia in the first place!

Hypnosis Treatment instructions for insomnia can be directives to the unconscious mind to use pleasant memories and fantasies to generate relaxation and and pleasant dreams. You will feel peaceful at bedtime and to have a positive expectation of sound and restful sleep. And that positive expectation will make you fall asleep quickly, and the dreams will make you sleep soundly and restfully all through the night.

Further, hypnosis programs are highly effective; it has been found that all normal people are hypnotizable to a greater or lesser extent. However, people with less than a 70 IQ or who are in an active state of psychosis generally are not hypnotizable. Most senile people are also difficult or impossible to hypnotize. As with any move to improve the quality of your life, your motivation is paramount to success.

Everyone responds differently to each type of hypnosis, so be sure your hypnosis insomnia program offers several different methods, like NLP and Ericksonian Metaphors, to bring you to the results that you seek.  Most hypnosis insomnia program participants find their sleep issues are cured by hypnosis, and insomnia simply fades away like a bad dream.
